Rather have THIS or try online dating?
While much of the stigma around online dating is evaporating, there are still many people who consider online dating to be their "last resort" to find love.
Why?
The average person moves in the same circles day in and day out. Let's take a look at your life:
Home: Nobody new there.
Work: Same coworkers day in and day out. Bad form to date clients (or worse yet, patients!).
Church: Some potential, but generally it's the same crowd there every week.
Activities: Again, some potential, but if you've already scoped out that crowd, you're out of luck.
Random strangers: If you're not the type to approach and talk to beautiful strangers, this isn't going to get you anywhere either.
Online dating helps you branch out into social circles that you haven't encountered yet. Maybe you're a die-hard penny slots fanatic and he loves blackjack. You'd probably never bump into each other, but you have similar interests. What if you're both middle school teachers, just at different schools? You run a basset hound rescue organization and she's a local vet.
You see my point? There are great people out there who just haven't bumped into each other yet. Why not use the technology we have to our advantage? Life's too short to not have the love of your life.

Comments
What you're saying is absolutely true. Online dating has made it really possible for people to look beyond their neighborhood to find great people out there. My single friend wants to try GoodWizz.com, and we are crossing our fingers that she will finally be able to find the right person for her there.
