2 Corinthians 6:1-2 (NLT)
As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.
It all began in a moment of fear and distrust. Worried about money, finances and maintaining a budget in the midst of bills, cancer treatment, braces, rising expenses and no pay raises in sight, I went to the Lord for relief. Why or why must we wait until we are about to succumb to the pressures of life or buckle under the load of heavy burden do we come to the Lord in distress rather than learning to live in His Presence is just foolishness but we do it all the time! Digging into the Word and pouring over Scripture after Scripture, it came by simple revelation yet so very profound. Why was I doing God’s Job? He promised to provide everything that I need from His Riches in Glory so if I don’t have enough it was on God unless of course I was attempting do it myself and not accept His Provision. So I began praying God’s Word as a reminder of His Promise and just lived financially day-by-day and did not worry about finances, but instead chose to tell God how good He was and that He was an awesome provider. No we did not win the lottery, but then again we don’t play the lottery or other games of chance. But suddenly, financial blessings began to pop up from the north, south, east and west as His Ministering Angels brought in the harvest of seeds planting past and present. I was completely overwhelmed by God entering a new chapter of faith that has set me free from financial burden and worry not because we have a windfall but have opened the Windows of Heaven by faith. It all began with the notion, if God is my Provider, why not now? It worked.
Sitting in with the doctor in the Infusion Room with our son, the Spirit began to move in my belly again. We were discussing his cancer treatment plan and the upcoming scans to see if this regiment was working or if a change was in order. Our son is walking in the Glory of God and shows no signs of invading tumors or the aggressive chemotherapy that he is undergoing so the scans would tell us the real story. We were all taken aback when we got the call two months ago. He looked great, felt good and was getting on with his life when a PET scan revealed five rapidly growing highly reactive cancerous tumors by his heart, diaphragm and stomach. There would be no radiation as it would be toxic to his internal organs. After three successful bouts before, doctors are more and more perplexed with each relapse. His doctor declared early on that we have entered the realm of hope. I like hope. I live there. God is there along with everything that I need. The doctor explained that if the PET scan revealed the tumors had stopped growing and no new growth that we would know that chemotherapy was working. Otherwise, an immediate change would be in order. I asked the question in a whisper unsure of my words yet compelled to ask, “What if the tumors are gone?” She smiled compassionately as she labeled it impossible and tried to encourage me to hope for the best case scenario. It was too soon in this regiment to see such results. When I heard the word “impossible” my heart beat rapidly as the Spirit of God moved through me and goose bumps covered my arms. God could it happen. Will you erase the tumors now? I felt the shame of the father who Jesus was ready cast the demon out of his son, so quickly prayed, “Father, help my unbelief?” Over the course of two weeks, the idea kept popping up in my head a clean scan with no tumors. Why not now?
Romans 3:23-24 (NLT)
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
No one deserves the Gift of God’s Kindness, yet He gives it to us anyway! We have all fallen short of God’s Glorious Standard and outside of Jesus Christ deserve all the rotten things that happen in life. But God couldn’t bear to see His Children suffer in such a manner so He sent His Son to pay the penalty for our sins in full. No punishment will be given to Children of God for sin because His Grace is sufficient for you. (2 Corinthians 12:9) In every situation, you are guaranteed the best possible outcome IF you will simply invest some faith in believing that God is kind and desires the best for you. If you believe it, you will come to the Father and ask for it. Wait for it. Live like its coming and accept nothing less. But rather than accepting God’s Best as a way of life, because we cannot earn salvation most people compromise or settle in life. Mark me on that list for many years. Forgetting our partnership with God through righteousness, we accept all the infirmities as a fair exchange for our disobedience and rebellion against God. Hope is not birthed in the absence of faith. Faith in God requires living what you believe, asking for what you do not have and waiting in confident hope that God will do the impossible as part of the Gift of Underserved Kindness that He has given you! It’s all part of the Glorious Grace of God that steps over our past and ignores our sin covered in the Blood of Jesus to grant us the Riches of Heaven here on earth. God’s Glorious Grace is a direct result of His Kindness thus dispelling the myth that the Lord is watching over you with a giant-mallet waiting to whack you in the head like some arcade game if you mess up. Nothing could be further from the Truth. Instead, the Lord is poised over our life with His Hands on the Windows of Heaven just waiting to thrust it open so His Glory will pour over your entire existence. Now all we must do is figure out how to use this Gift of Undeserved Kindness and make it accessible in our life. (Ephesians 1:6-8) The craziest part of it all is that this was God’s Plan from the very beginning. He knew you would mess up, fail and fall down – yet He still chose to offer His Kindness as a gift to be used in our life. How do we access His Kindness and make it useful in our life?
Matthew 7:7-11 (NLT)
“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask Him.”
People do not have a problem praying and asking God for stuff. In fact, that is usually the greatest form of communication when people come to God. It is about stuff. Particular things. Specific and detailed requests. I used to do the very same thing. I even kept a grocery list of items that I was praying about waiting for God to do it so I wouldn’t miss it. Asking is not the problem but receiving is. Seeking is not an obstacle but finding what we want is. Knocking is an expendable effort but open doors seem elusive. If you are not experiencing a supernatural outpouring in your life, I offer this insight from His Word. Look at the second half of the passage above, and you will be successful in asking, seeking and knocking when it comes to your Heavenly Father. Until you believe that He is a good father who will do exactly what He says that He will do unlike earthly dads then you will not experience the victory you are after. How do you know that you believe? The day that you decide not to settle for anything less. Do you ask with expectation? Do you seek with persistence? Do you knock with confidence? This symbolizes your belief.
The days leading up to our son’s PET scan, I began to pray for a clean scan because God is my Father and He promised total healing. My faith became stirred up so much that I no longer asked for, sought after or knocked on Heaven’s door for the natural goal but began to expect a supernatural one. I began telling a handful of people that I believed his scan would be clean without any sign of cancer. I must confess it remained a whisper as my faith was trying to break through barriers of doubt and fear. By the day of the scan, I was so worked up that anything less than complete healing would have been devastating because I put all my trust in the Lord. The doctor had assured me that a lack of progression was a win and reducing intensity victory. But that is not what God’s Word said and I wanted all of God’s Best for my child. He promised to heal him so why not now?
Romans 11:6 (NLT)
And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.
God’s Kindness has nothing to do with us. We do not deserve it. We cannot earn it. It is really free and undeserved. God works best in the impossible because it is in such a place that human strength and resources are exhausted exposing the supernatural hand of God with no natural explanation. We don’t have to fail completely to learn this valuable truth about the Lord’s Kindness and Love but most of us will fail many times at this faith thing before we actually get it. Put my name on that list, too. We give up before He answers never expecting to hear His Voice. We stop looking before we find anything worried it is all a lie or not worth having in the first place. Or we stop knocking on the door to Heaven when our human strength runs out just before the Windows open over our life by faith. We must learn to trust, rely and depend on the Kindness of a Loving Father who will stop at nothing to get His Riches from Heaven to you! (Romans 11:22) Stop accepting punishment in the form of defeat, disease and despair as repayment for your sin. Jesus is more than enough! You can stop trying to earn salvation and simply work it out. Purpose in your heart and mind to knock down every stronghold keeping you from God’s Promises and Purpose for your life. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5) Don’t let your stinking thinking keep you from having God’s Very Best. Become shamelessly persistent in your pursuit of His Goodness, Mercy and Love exemplified in His Kindness to His Children. (Luke 11:8-10) It is your right as a Child of the Living God filled with His Spirit and washed in the Blood to come boldly to God without reservation clothed in righteousness. (Hebrews 4:15-16) Your life of blessing was predetermined by the Lord for your benefit – open the Gift of Kindness and begin to use it. (Ephesians 2:6-10) Why not now?
Philippians 2:12-13 (NLT)
Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
What pleases God? Well, it is not really anything we can do. Faith pleases God. If fact, it is impossible to please God without it. (Hebrews 11:6) God is working in you to develop more faith that will become confident hope that believes God for the Riches of Heaven not the crumbs under the table. The rain falls on the just and unjust. God loves everyone. But His Favor is reserved for those who clothe themselves in righteousness and live as Children of God. (Colossians 3:12) The results of salvation are not determined by our ability to no longer sin. You and I are going to fall short of the Glory of God over and over again. But the real work of salvation is to love, trust, lean on, rely on and depend on God in every single aspect of life. This shows the world that you have faith in Him. It tells others that you live in confident hope. It is to live out the belief that He is a good Father, Provider, Healer and Friend. Your life should demonstrate that you belong to Jesus and every outcome will follow your faith in the Lord. Through each trial and test, the Lord is building your faith to move you deeper into His Presence. He wants to bless you! He is trying to prosper you! Work out your salvation as only you can by loving, trusting and expecting the Lord in every situation no matter how big or how small!
Matthew 6:9-13 (NLT)
Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
If God has counted every hair on my head, what makes me think that He is not concerned with every single detail of my existence? This prayer that Jesus demonstrated is so very simple in nature but spiritually complex. You will never be able to receive His Glory and Grace on the earth and in this life if you do not believe that the Lord has come to you in His Kindness and Love. Do you believe that God is always good? Do you have faith that His Plan is in full operation in your life? If so, then why can’t we just pray like Jesus did and expect miracles every day? Why expect less than God’s Absolute Best as we say, “May your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven”? To pray for less and expect anything else is hypocrisy. We are saying something that we do not believe as implied by compromised words and mediocrity in life. I have prayed this many times over the last couple weeks and put all my expectation in the Lord. So when the day of the PET scan came, I was like a cat in a roomful of rockers. I realized that anything less than a clean scan would be a disappointment. My faith was on the line. My hope in the realm of the unknown and unseen. Each moment felt as though I was edging closer to the ledge of a vast ravine. When the call came, I almost fainted before breathing a single word or hearing the doctor’s voice. The moment of truth had finally arrived. She said, “Lori, you are not going to believe this!” Right then I knew and was overcome with laughter and giddiness. “The cancer is completely gone!” The impossible happened. It all began with why not now! Ask yourself that question today and get ready for God to blow your mind! Whatever you are believing for today that is found in His Word, I stand in agreement with you! I pray for strength in those weak knees and tired arms. God is doing exactly what He promised that He would do. Trust Him enough to ask. Seek Him until He is found. Knock until the door to the Realm of Hope is opened. Wait for God’s Best and His Glory will fill your life!
I Peter 5:8-11 (NLT)
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. All power to him forever! Amen.
