Why Nigel McGuinness will succeed in WWE

Nigel McGuinness is headed to WWE without any of the hemming and hawing about the move that has accompanied Bryan Danielson’s move. It isn’t that he’s less loved and there’s therefore less concern for him in WWE, because, while he is less beloved than Danielson (through no fault of his own, Danielson has a special place), he simply has every tool needed to be at least a mid-card level threat in the WWE.

First, the obvious- Nigel is a fairly big guy. He’s 6’1 and 220 lbs, which, while hardly making him a giant, does mean he’d match up fairly well with John Cena, Edge, CM Punk and much of the rest of the main event scene, being towered over by no one. He’s a built, in shape guy, with a unique look that doesn’t break too far from the mold.

As any Ring of Honor champion, his ring work is top notch. He can rely too heavily on lariats or arm-work, but with some agents help and the fact that early on he’ll be lead through matches should fix that right up. He has good timing and a great sense of drama and character in the ring. He’ll immediately be one of the better workers in the WWE. Here’s a quick NOAH match to show what I mean.

As far as promos go, Nigel is absolutely great at those, too, especially if he’s a heel. He has the stuck up, self-assuredness that so gets under fans skin and he’ll be over as a heel from his first sneer at the crowd.

The final reason Nigel will succeed is that he's a true student of the business.  Many times at ROH shows, I'd be watching a match and look behind me, only to see Nigel's head peaking out of a curtain, watching the action intently to learn what he can.  He worked with the legendary Les Thatcher in OVW and sources indicate that there, too, he had nothing but love and respect for the business. A lifelong wrestling fan who knew he wanted to be a wrestler since seeing Bret Hart face the British Bulldog at Summerslam, Nigel is the rare, passionate athlete who will always be improving.

With the in-ring skill promos and to back that up, that’s a recipe for WWE success.

Ahhh! I'm now torn between Cena and McGuiness! They're both great fighters. This should make for some interesting shows..
