What is the purpose of a date?
Hopeless romantics would tell you that it’s the first step to meet the love of your life. They would say that the sole purpose of dating is to find your future spouse.
Ask a young college girl what the point of the date is, and you’ll get a totally different, more cynical answer. A lot of college girls see a date as a business transaction, and nothing more. A girl sits through a boring evening, with a boring guy, simply to gain something all college kids want...decent food.
Everyone knows about the dreaded cafeteria food on college campuses, and girls are going to great lengths to avoid it. Many girls even advise their friends to go out with guys they are not interested in, simply to get a free meal. But is it really fair to have a guy waste his time and money when you know the relationship is going nowhere? A lot of young girls couldn't care less.
Problems then arise when the girl encounters a casual dater’s worst nightmare, a clinger. This is a guy who does not take a hint and continues to contact the girl even after she has made it clear she’s not interested. Clingers, unfortunately, sometimes turn into stalkers. This is the danger of toying with someone’s feelings just because you want a change from the monotonous cafeteria food.
Taking into consideration all the possible dangers and awkwardness that could arise, one question begs to be answered.
When it’s all said and done, was that free meal really worth it?
