I’m sure by now you’ve heard about Mel Gibson’s wife filing for divorce. I’m also sure that you’ve heard that he’s going to have to give up about $400 million. Possibly the biggest divorce settlement ever! Michael Jordan tops the Forbes Top 10 of expensive celebrity divorces. He gave his soon to be ex-wife Juanita Jordan $168 million which is only 1/3 of his fortune (their fortune). I guess that Space Jams movie paid pretty well!
Are these women entitled to all this moolah? Hell yeah!
I’m not going to state the obvious of keeping a nice home, being a supportive spouse, emotional support and encouragement one provides to another in a committed long term relationship. Let’s just talk about the dough the person receiving alimony/child support could have made for themselves if not being there for the breadwinner! I speak from experience.

The experience of living in five different states for the advancement of your ex-husband’s career. The experience of birthing and nurturing two wonderful children that could carry on a family name. The experience of providing the perfect family. Oh, yeah we were the perfect family. How many families do you know have been in a national magazine, national ads, modeled,and been on national television for being so perfect? Can you say The Cosby’s?
Yes I think Mel Gibson’s wife is entitled to $400 million or more. Just like I believe that any woman (or man) who has given their all to their spouse and helped build up a fortune deserves to be compensated. It took me a while to believe this and feel worthy about my own support. But 12 years of love and encouragement should be worth something. My divorce settlement isn’t going to include $400 million dollars, expensive luxury cars and a small island off of Haiti, but dammit I deserve every bit of my bus pass and pizza stone settlement!
