Crunchies to startups is similar to Oscar to entertainment, it reflects some of the highest achievement for the industry. And this year, at the 6th annual Crunchies award ceremony, Mark Zuckerberg took the award for “CEO of the Year”.
The nominees were strong, Phil Libin of Evernote, Dick Costolo of Twitter, Marissa Mayer of Yahoo, and Larry Page of Google. Each nominee has changed not only the structure of the company, but the entire tech industry as well.
Phil Libin has brought Evernote into a mainstream note taking platform during 2012, crossing 34 million users and 1.4 million paid user milestone. Dick Costolo has introduced monetization to twitter, it has also shown the essential of the twitter during presidential election. Marissa Mayer has made an major impact after taking over Yahoo, one of the biggest internet company in the world. And the rapid adoption of Google+, announcement of Google Glasses, the rising of android certainly showed that Larry Page’s capability of being an CEO of Google, who ended up receiving a runner up award.
But none surpassed the achievement of Mark Zuckerberg last year. For a start, he has brought the company from a college dorm room project to a $104 billion IPO, making it one of the most successful IPO of the tech industry. Although there was a short fall of losing stock prices, Zuckerberg is still able to rally the morale of the Facebook employees by publicly announcing that he isn’t going to sell.
Facebook has crossed 1 billion user milestone, making 1/6 of every person in the world, making it an essential tool in our daily lives. And this number keeps growing, it wouldn’t be surprising that the entire planet will be soon sharing on facebook.
The launch of integrating facebook timeline shows a person’s entire life in matter of a profile page. And the integration of featured stories in mobile will show whether mobile will be a revenue driving factor, or a cost to Facebook on mobile devices.
There is a also a movie named The Social Network, with Jesse Eisenberg playing Mark Zuckerberg, it has made Mark Zuckerberg’s story of building a startup a hollywood story, Jesse Eisenberg has received Academy Award nomination for his role, and Mark Zuckerberg beats him by winning the nomination of “CEO of the Year”.
