The general consensus out of San Diego Comic-Con is that it was fairly underwhelming—Fans and writers alike expected huge announcements regarding Marvel and DC’s Cinematic Universes, but all they got was the release date of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”

Yes, there were some awesome photos and teaser shown to the thousands of fans packed in Hall-H—there was one film that particularly stood out with a mad like action: “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

The fourth installment in visionary director George Miller’s “Mad Max” film series. Following a silent hero Max, the new film has had several obstacles to overcome and suffered from delays—but from the looks of the Comic-Con trailer, it seems well worth the wait.

2015 is stacked with huge blockbusters with “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Fantastic Four,” “Ant-Man,” and “Star Wars Episode VII”—however we’re going to tell you why “Mad Max: Fury Road” is the tent pole to watch next year.

Tom Hardy as the titular hero: As previously mentioned, Max is a man of a few words and Hardy is the perfect man to play him. Replacing Mel Gibson is no easy task, but Hardy has the acting chops and gravitas to pull it off as evidenced with his performance in “Locke.” Also, with his performance as Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” he showed he can convey the full spectrum of emotions just using his eyes, something that he’ll need playing Max.

A focus on in-camera stunts: Summer blockbusters have become obsessed with computer-generated worlds and action sequences, which is great but at times it takes away from the experience. As evidenced with the Comic-Con trailer the film features some crazy stunts you just do not see anymore, you can feel the impact of every crash and explosion—it will prove to be a unique cinematic experience not seen in today’s blockbusters.

George Miller’s direction: Miller has directed every single film in the franchise—a franchise that has inspired most of the post-apocalyptic films that have taken over the big screen as of late. Miller’s has crafted a world that is unique and still is able to excite daces after it released and he is sure to make another film that will inspire the next generation of filmmakers.

A “Mad” cast of characters: “Mad Max” has always been known for its insane leather cladded characters and “Fury Road” is no different—trailers and images released showcase some of the crazy inhabitants of this mad world including Charlize Theron’s Furiousa who has a mechanical arm and a long haired baddy that has a Raiden from “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” look. “Mad Max: Fury Road” is definitely set to have some of next year’s most talked about characters.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” does not hit theaters till May 15, 2015—it is a crowded year, but it is no doubt the film to watch.

Are you guys excited to see Mad Max back on the big screen? Sound off in the comments.
