Our ancestors, over hundreds of years, evolved by helping each other and the one way to develop a bond is by being kind to each other. The groups and communities with the strongest bonds lasted the longest.
Warm contact between two humans or a human and a pet. Think of the Pass It Forward movement based on the Hollywood movie, and how special it as and the excitement is caused. It made it safe to step out from the crowd to be kind and to do five kind things for people you knew and didn’t know, and in turn they would do five kind things for people. It felt good, we felt connected, and it was easier to pass around than anger and it felt good, like it was the right thing to do.
Turn thoughtlessness into a smile
During an interview for a job to wait tables or in a restaurant, health food store and then in a spa or hair salon, my new boss would always ask, ‘so what makes you want to work here?’ And I would always reply, ”Because when people come in here you never know what they may have just left at home or have going on in their life. When they come in here, my job is to make their day brighter or better, or to help them enjoy their time here and maybe they get a chance to forget about it for a time.”
