Why it works: Tucking in your shirt

Some people love tucking in their shirts, others don’t. The fact is that it only works in certain situations.

Here’s why:

If you have a long torso, then tucking in your shirt works. To create balance, the goal is to visually shorten your upper half.

Also, those who are long waisted usually have shorter legs. When tucking in your shirt, you give the appearance of longer legs. Yay!

If you are short waisted (Do you fit into Petite clothes?), tucking in your shirt will make your waist even less visible. To avoid the ‘boobs then belt’ look, untuck that shirt (or wear tunic tops)!

In this picture, notice how the tucked in version gives the outfit a streamline look.

Interesting. I think that in the case youve offered in the images, the tucked in looks better than untucked but I still think that the model could scoot that skirt down a little...unless the model plans to work in a library and have those little colored cords hanging from her glasses.

Thank you! This explains it very clearly. Looking forward to reading more of your tips.
I'm a fairly fit mom of four, who is trying hard to find that balance between looking like a frump and a teen wanna-be. Keep us in mind as you write your columns!
