Tim Tebow is canceling an appearance with Rod Parsley. Reportedly, Tebow’s speakers' bureau hadn't researched the event with the “prosperity preacher” before accepting the invite. While the prosperity gospel seems new, the cult practices that call for people to reach into the energy of the universe for all their wants is not. “The Law of Attraction” is its latest offering.
For well over a hundred years, Mind Science and various Eastern religions have taught that humans can control their destiny and riches by thinking positive thoughts and imagining that what they want is already in their possession. It has taken many forms through the years and utilized many channels (including get rich and business success seminars and books) in which to get its message across, but the underlying theory is that man is a “conscious creator” of his world.
Of course, negative thoughts are to be avoided and being a receptive vehicle (having the capacity to receive is essential) are encouraged most of all. The problem is, from whom or what are you receiving? Most teachings in this vein call it the Collective Mind, The Universe, or, God, if you will. What people are unwittingly doing (or perhaps wittingly) is opening themselves up to forces of evil. Those who practice The Law of Attraction or “New Thought” mention God and scripture often. That is a very dangerous mixture. Think about it.
Finally, should you here a teaching that combines terms like “balance” “chaos” “visualization” “mind” “order” “reality” “source” “attract” please be aware of its non-Christian origin. Remember, as believers in Jesus Christ, of which Tim Tebow is very vocally one, our destiny is in God’s hands, not in our ability to manipulate our minds.
