Why is marijuana illegal? In the 1930’s cotton growers lobbied congress to make marijuana illegal.
Why would cotton growers do that? Marijuana comes from the hemp plant and hemp makes stronger rope, stronger sails and more durable clothing than cotton.
Marijuana is illegal for the same reason that the United States had Prohibition. John D. Rockefeller said, “Competition is a sin.” He funded campaigns to make alcohol illegal. Why did he do that? Henry Ford made his first cars so that they would run on either alcohol or gasoline.
Most people seem to think the south fought the civil war in order to preserve slavery.
Walter E. Williams, the brilliant black economist, has said, “If you think the civil war was about slavery, I have some bridges I’d like to sell you.”
In the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln talked about ending slavery, but that was to give the north the high moral ground. The Gettysburg Address was the second time Lincoln addressed the troops. In his first address to the troops, Lincoln did not mention slavery but he did say that the north would retain the right to tax the south.
Anytime the government does anything, it is a good idea to follow the money. Whoever pays the politicians the most is going to benefit?
