Why I support Ron Paul: Justin's story

The time has arrived for the long-anticipated story of a Ron Paul supporter who was the first person in the world to find the actual recording of the endorsement speech given by State Senator Tom Davis of South Carolina.  This was one of the mainstream media’s most highly anticipated endorsements given Davis’ prominence among the South Carolina Republican party, the Tea Party movement and the energy that many candidates exuded to gain his favor, most notably Rick Santorum. His endorsement was eventually earned by Dr. Ron Paul and yet it was met with a deafening silence that I previously wrote specifically about while referencing the near total media blackout of this most sought-after endorsement. After 2 1/2 hours of searching throughout the web trying to find a video of his speech, I eventually offered a reward to the first person to find this video that may be found here.

In that reward, I offered to tell the story of one of Dr. Paul’s supporters and their response to 3 questions about their support for his campaign.  After many of my readers had been scouring the web, it was Justin Ptak that was the first person to find the exclusive video of Sen. Davis’ endorsement. As it turns out, Mr. Ptak is quite an accomplished writer in his own right.  He actively blogs here for the Ludwig von Mises Institute.  Many may want to put this blog on their active reading list in the very near future.

Mr. Ptak actually met Dr. Paul over 10 years ago while a Margaret T. Rowley Fellow at the Mises Institute.  He was born in Chicago and has spent 8 years living abroad studying at international schools in Geneva, Switzerland and the French Riviera.  He is a graduate of Harvard University and member of the Free State Project.  He was deep into his study of the works of F.A. Hayek, Albert Jay Nock, and Murray Rothbard when he came across this most unusual politician.  Justin offers a very interesting view as just one of the millions of Americans currently supporting Ron Paul for President of the United States.

While he is wary of electoral politics and the coercive nature of the state, he believes Ron Paul's campaign is a great educational tool to spread vital economic and political ideas. Justin worked on the 2008 presidential campaign as a grassroots online media coordinator primarily focusing on communicating the message of peace, liberty, and prosperity. He most recently wrote a speech for Dr. Paul which was published on LewRockwell.com. It is titled "Why You Should Vote for Ron Paul" and can be found in its entirety here.

In response to the first question of why he supports Ron Paul, I had originally intended upon posing the question in the previous article to publish summaries of the winner's response, but I don't believe a summary of this answer would do it justice.  Here is Justin's response to that question in full:

I support Ron Paul for his unwavering support for individual liberties and his understanding of the vital importance of protecting property rights in order to maintain civilization. He is the only candidate who has a serious plan that would tackle the trillion-dollar budget deficits, increasing inflation, burdensome regulation, onerous tax code, and the dangerous devaluation of the dollar. Ron Paul is actually a politician who believes one should keep the fruits of their own labor and who would work to eliminate the income tax entirely. Ron Paul also opposes NAFTA and CAFTA as he favors genuine free trade and mutually beneficial exchange.

Moreover, he is the only candidate who seems to understand the inner-workings of the Federal Reserve and how it creates money out of thin air, manipulates interest rates, and interferes with the free market leading to artificial booms and busts that destabilizes the economy. Ron Paul is the unique politician who actively advocates for the abolition of the Fed and its monopoly on the issue of fiat dollars. He also favors the repeal of legal tender laws, taxes, and regulations that impede Americans from using their favored type of commodity or foreign currency in their own monetary transactions. A free banking system of competing currencies would end the insidious actions of the current banking system and allow for the restoration of a completely unregulated and private gold standard or even allow an entirely new electronic and encrypted system such as Bitcoins to flourish.

Of great importance is Ron Paul's stance on matters of foreign policy that would put an end to the United States government acting as the world’s policeman and ever expanding military-industrial complex that now has over 700 bases in 135 countries across the globe. This imperial outreach not only puts our troops unnecessarily in harm’s way, but it endangers all citizens at home and abroad. We must convince the citizenry that war and destruction is not the path toward promoting their own well-being. Bringing our troops home is long overdue. This is the foreign policy advocated by George Washington in his farewell address and best articulated by Thomas Jefferson in his March 4, 1801 inaugural address: ‘peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none.

While Mr. Ptak does believe the media coverage has been somewhat wanting and lackluster given the fact that Dr. Paul is found "dangerous" to the vested interests of the corporatist media, he believes it is to be expected. “So you do what the good doctor always does and smile graciously, noting their biased interests, all the while continuing on confident in your own efforts and focused on the larger task at hand.”

I would like to thank Justin Ptak for finding the "missing link" to an important news story that was being largely ignored by the mainstream media mostly because we must assume at this point that Senator Tom Davis chose to stand on principle and endorse the candidate who he felt would be the best candidate for the job instead of picking one who would fit the traditional media narrative.

What a unique view into the diverse range of support Ron Paul is now receiving.  It was a pleasure to bring this reader's story forth for the world to see.
