Once again, the opportunity presents itself to pause and reflect on the life and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968). Hopefully children will not spend the extra time today playing video games, and parents will gather their children around to contemplate and discuss the progress this country has made over the last four decades and Dr. King's part in it. Most importantly, they should discuss the reasons why he is still remembered.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. lived a life of principles

Dr. King lived congruently with principles which have withstood the expanse of time and eternity. He was a wise and ambitious man who could have chosen any field of interest and been successful. He could have sought to bask in earthly pleasures alone and, he would have been highly compensated. In his life that was cut short all too soon, he chose to put his fellowman above his own personal interests. In just thirty-nine years before he was gunned down, he made a mark in this world, and his legacy lives on.

Leave your own legacy

The principles he so eloquently presented and cherished could find their way into the hearts of people every race and every religion of any stature. Every conscious person born to this earth has the capacity to leave a lasting legacy. Living by sound principles make good men great, and their memories become forever etched in the hearts and minds of family, friends, and strangers. This world still has a long way to go. Each person can literally take up a worthy cause worth working toward and leave their own personal legacy for future generations.
