The biggest question that has been asked over and over is why does she stay? This appears to be a very simple question yet it brings up a variety of answers when presented to victims of domestic violence. After working with women of various ages, races, and backgrounds the number one question that they seem to despise of the most was why doesn't she just leave?
If it was that simple they would! The fact of the matter is they are still connected to the abusive relationship for many reasons that go way beyond what the outside eye can see. For the majority of victims their children, financial reasons, guilt, shame, fear, they have no other place to go, and the unknown factor all prevent them back from making the ultimate decision to leave. The power and control factors that their abuser place on them makes leaving a thought that frequently visits their mind but their fear forces it to remain just a thought.
No matter how easy the task of leaving may seem to you, people will never fully understand what a victim goes through until you have heard her story that reveals her struggles. In return it uncovers the untold story of her many attempts to flee , the many times she was almost out of the abusive relationship but had to return, the late nights she stayed up crying and hoping for an escape, her answers will reveal why she did stay.
