Why do more kids have ADHD or Autism

It was just reported that in the past year ADHD and Autism spectrum diagnoses is up 20%. The reason is simple; doctors are more aware of the condition and the behaviors that go along with it. In the past, many people were misdiagnosed as having behavioral problems. A diagnosis requires several steps. Usually a teacher will notice that the child has problems paying attention in class. He will then request an SST (Student Study Team) to be formed. The team may consist of past teachers, a special education teacher, an administrator, and the current teacher. After a plan is formulated, it will be put into place. Many times the plan calls for such measures as the RSP (resource and support) teacher taking the student and giving him one on one help, or the student may go back into a small group for a refresher course in the subject he is struggling with. If the extra help does not help, if the student is two years behind in academic level, then he will go into Special Education.
