We've all heard the old expression, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?". We know what it was that our mothers meant by this... don't give it up too easily! Old fashioned; yes- but it still often rings true.
My girlfriend Nancy sleeps around. When I asked her why, she said she just thinks there's a double standard; it's acceptable for men- but not for women. She said she just doesn't buy into that antiquated thinking. Something happened last weekend that changed her mind.
Nancy was waiting for a girlfriend at the bar at Bryant & Cooper on friday night. The attractive man next to her offered her a drink, which she accepted and they chatted for a few minutes, when her friend walked in. Her friend wanted to get a table, so Nancy said goodbye and slipped the man her number. After dinner, and on her way home, he called her. She agreed to meet him at her home. They were intimate, and he left afterward. The next morning she discovered the gold Rolex watch her parents had bought her for her 50th birthday was missing. Nancy remembered taking it off before sex, and putting it on her dresser. She called his number from her cell and he told her she'd have a hard time proving it was he who took it, and to leave him alone. Nancy was devastated and for the first time she was ashamed at her behavior, and her casual attitude towards sex. She had taken a complete stranger into her home and compromised more than just her virtue.
To begin a good relationship, we must start with a good foundation. You'll probably never regret waiting for sexual intimacy, but very well may wish you hadn't 'fallen into bed' with a partner too readily. My new version of that old expression- "Why buy the eggs when you've already laid the chick?".
