In an astrology chart, the planets nearest the earth are the ones that have an effect at the time of birth. As a baby is passing through the birth canal, the harmonics of each of these planets is theoretically affecting the genes of the child. These influences become a connection that lasts a lifetime. When the ever changing planets move into different angular positions, a variety of life events occur. Many people believe that astrology is about predicting the future. The predictable motion of the surrounding celestial bodies is constant, therefore inevitable which creates the nature of prediction. Yet it is not wholly fitting to view in terms of future since these movements always happen the same way. When considering the big picture, the constant factor is that life is forever changing.
Below left is a quick rundown of general qualities of the planets: (some are not really planets, but have equal importance in the effects)

Considering the rising sign, which is another good reason to have an astrology chart based on birth time and location. The ascendant or rising sign is like a veil. It deals in the outward motivations, and is the way people see you in the world.
It is somewhat separate from the inner you, your emotions, or subjective feelings. When you want to share yourself with others, it can be a conscious decision to let someone see past the veil into your world.
The houses. The houses are marked on the astrology chart. They look like wedges reminiscent of pieces of pie. As the universe is constantly changing, different angles of planets in motion have different effects on your life. This is called a transit.
An example of using the house system is when a transit involves, say the planet Mars, and it matches the placement of Mars at the time of the subject’s birth; it tells which area of life that is affected. In the birth chart, let's say Mars is in Aries in the fourth house.
The fourth house, for instance, represents home and family. When the transiting planet, Mars which is known as the planet of action, hooks up it to the fourth house, the subject’s attribute of the Mars birth placement endows a sensitive reception to this celestial event. Since the fourth house represents the home, the transit may activate a home remodeling as the fourth house represents the home.
Angular relationships between the planets and a person’s chart are important facets: The unique individual begins to emerge through the planetary relationships such as trines, conjunctions, oppositions. These make the facets within the individual's astrology. Trines are considered easy; square aspects are considered areas of difficulty.
The angles are important in the native's birth chart placements, which are permanent personality factors, as opposed to the “predictive” astrology of constantly moving and changing planetary connections.*
Astrology - The decans (10 degrees each) designate if a person is born in the earlier or later part of a sign. These divisions indicate an approximate beginning and ending of the celestial connection and approximately how long a transit may last. The emotional impact of a transit depends on an individual’s reactions to the events that happen during a transit. Three decans are in each house division.
Astrology - The Triplicities and Quadruplicities indicate elements, and rulers of each sign - number of signs that each category contains. These categories are: Fire, Air, Earth, Water, or Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable. All of these paint an intricate and multifaceted personality and subjective reality.
