Whoopi! The queen of cool surprised us with a visit to Bergdorf Goodman on NYC’s Fashions Night Out. An oval table was placed in the center of the store on the east side of 5th Avenue and Whoopi Goldberg invited anyone present to come and talk with her before the round table discussion began. She spoke to people from all over the world that night. Some were there specifically to see her, while others were just fortunate to have accidentally run into her.
Bergdorfs had one of the best spreads of any stores for the evening. Baby bottles of beer, good scotch, hors d'oeuvres and a photo station with funny temporary mustaches. They had a list of various celebrities and designers that would be entering throughout the evening to sit at the oval table and chat with shoppers.
When Whoopi very casually walked through the crowd to take her seat, she was immediately surrounded by people taking photos and videos, all attempting to get her attention. She was graciously attentive to the individuals speaking to her and rarely looked up to acknowledge the masses. When she did, it would be between visitors and she would smile at everyone who called for her.
"I love you, Whoopi!" From one fan brought the trademark Whoopi smile to her face.
Whoopi has become a fashion icon. Her unique sense of style hasn’t gone unnoticed and she was invited that evening to share her thoughts with designer Marlon Gobel, along with several other individuals within the fashion industry. The secret, it seems, to running into celebrities during events in NYC is to float through the big name stores along 5th Avenue and ask who is supposed to be dropping by. Until next year, it’s never a bad idea to drop into these stores for any occasion, many celebrities shop here regularly, so you may just get lucky. You could even shout Whoopi!
