American actress, singer, songwriter, talk show host, and comedienne, Whoopi Goldberg brings her long list of talents to a children’s book designed to help teach kids manners in Goldberg’s typical humorous fashion. Whoopi's Big Book of Manners by Whoopi Goldberg is a delightful read for both children and parents.
Whoopi's Big Book of Manners starts out with the topic of picking your nose in public, right off the bat this catching children’s attention and lightens up the otherwise boring subject of learning manners. Everything from simple manners like saying please and thank you to manners for different situations like at the dinner table, in the Movie Theater and even cell phone manners.
Parents don’t think you are going to escape the teachings of Whoopi Goldberg though. One of my favorites is the section on sportsmanship. There is a list of rules for children to follow but an added message just for parents ‘don’t yell at your child’s coach. If you’re a poor sport, your kid will be too.’
The simple text and humorous cartoon illustrations hold the attention of even the youngest of readers. Manners are something so easy to learn but just as easy to forget so Whoopi's Big Book of Manners is a delightful addition to any home library. This would also be a terrific activity book for daycares and classroom. Highlighting a ‘manner’ a day or week and letting the children practice ‘good manners’.
