Whole Foods' Whole Planet Launches Blogging Project Live from Africa

Until last week, the The Whole Planet Foundation relied primarily on the support of Whole Foods' built-in network of consumers donating to the organization. Now, with the help of online fundraising platform Rally.org, WPF is seizing the opportunity to connect with a wider network of supporters. Through social media storytelling on their new Rally page, WPF will be able to engage supporters in a deeper conversation about issues like microcredit and food sourcing. Since launching WPF already has over 130,000 followers on Rally and hope to grow their numbers using Rally's integrated social media tools and easy to use broadcasting capabilities.

Executive Program Director of WPF, Steve Wanta, will be leaving this week to embark on a 2-week campaign traveling to Africa, specifically Ethiopia and Malawi, to visit several clients of their microlending program. Steve will be documenting the foundation's efforts in several of the communities that benefit from WPF's programs. He will also be "breaking bread" with a few clients to discover traditional recipes that WPF will eventually use to create a microcredit client inspired cookbook. All throughout his tour, Steve will be sharing updates and adventures with supporters on WPF's Rally Page.

Whole Planet Foundation combats world poverty by connecting impoverished communities around the world with microcredit loans that help finance small businesses such as local neighborhood stores, raising livestock, small-scale agriculture, artisan goods, prepared foods and many more. Professor Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank founder and Nobel Prize recipient for his work in microfinance, is one of the chief advisors for Whole Planet Foundation. So far, Whole Planet Foundation has helped almost 200,000 entrepreneurs in 50 countries and funded 16.5 million with another 22.5 million promised.

The Whole Planet Foundation Rally page will allow supporters to see and read tangible results from their personal donations they make online or directly in a Whole Foods store. Donors will also be invited to experience some of the more intimate moments Wanta will share, including the feasting of a traditional celebratory meal at the end of a long day. Through this partnership, Rally and WPF hope to share a beautiful world rarely seen by others and engage their supporters in a brand new way.
