It's only been 11 years since they opened up the last Whole Foods location in the Twin Cities area.
Western suburbanites, in 2011 a Whole Foods store will open on Plymouth Rd in Minnetonka - in the Ridgedale Mall area. I saw this on KARE 11 and trying to figure out where that location would be - what is so big along that road that has such a large vacancy to put in a new store? I'll have to drive around to find out!
There is no set date for the Edina location - it will be along France Avenue, however.
Whole Foods, from my experiences both at the one in the Lake Calhoun area and the mega store in Chicago (that is a store worth visiting - they have a wine bar, live music stage, at least five ethnic hot bar options, slow roasted meats area, sushi bar, made-to-order sandwiches and more plus a beautiful lunch patio overlooking the river). What a fun place to shop!
My favorites? I have to say I like the seafood selection - it is the best in the area, other than Coastal Seafoods. It also offers produce I don't always see in other store (fresh cactus, for example). No, I have not used cactus in a recipe but when I do, I know where to get it. And I will then write about it...
While I am not in to prepared-at-the-store soups, I must say I have always admired the selection.
Meat - let's discuss this. Blueberry sausages, unique lamb cuts and the variety of tenderloins available in fabulously thin and tender strips - wow - so versatile.
So, I'm excited. With Trader Joe's, Byerly's and Lakewinds just down the street, the Ridgedale area of Minnetonka is going to be a gourmet cook's hot spot for sure!!!
