Gees, do you mean there's a Beatle other than John Lennon? Did you hear it was John's 70th?
Thats easy..George Harrison, John Lennon & last but not least..Paul McCartney.. :)
Klaus Voormann, Peter Asher, Pete Townshend, Ray Davies, Glenn Tilbrook...Pete Best too!
Micky Dolenz is a fantastic choice. He's one of the best and most underrated singers in rock history. I'd see him in an All-Starr line-up in a heartbeat.
- Paul McCartney
- Klaus Voorman
- Pete Townshend
- Zak Starkey
- Ben Harper
- Julian Lennon
- Dhani Harrison
- Eric Clapton
But how many of those guys would actually participate, though, and would fit in the All-Starr Band formula of having hits to play? We can hope, I suppose.
I´m glad you FINALLY changed the subject fom John´s "celebration".
My Ringo´s All Time Starr Band would surely include Peter Frampton (Show Me The Way, Baby I Love Your Way), Mark Farner (The Loco-Motion, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Bad Time), Edgar Winter (Frankestaine), Greg Lake (Lucky Man, Karn Evil 9, From The Beginning), Joe Walsh (Rocky Mountain Way), Billy Preston and Zack Starkey.
Of course the intervention by Paul McCartney playing "Birthday" is the cherry at the top, but he is not really an All-Starr Band member.
I'd like Ringo to go on tour with no all stars and sing only music from his last 5 albums. That is my dream Ringo concert. :-)
I would also like this. Also, how about a show where Ringo would perform duets with people he's done duets with on albums?
All Starr Band members:
* Johnny Warman (Apple Records artist)
* Any surviving members of The Grateful Dead
* Ray Manzarek or Robbie Krieger from The Doors?
* Any number of musicians still living from 60s, early 70s who were in a band that had a rock hit who can still play or still plays and has a good demeanor
* Anyone who has done a duet with Ringo on an album (?)
There are still a lot of All Starr Band possibilities..
For example, Strawberry Alarm Clock has a web page and still tours occasionally...
Other than that, how about some 80s metal stars? Ace Frehley? Jason Newsted? Surely must be plenty of those around. How about Grace Slick?
Roger McGuinn (gtr), Neil Innes (gtr/pno), Robyn Hitchcock (gtr/pno), Micky Dolenz (drums), Bill Wyman (bs), Ian MacLagen (keys), Bobby Keys (sax).
Al Jardine (guitar)
Little Steven (guitar)
Mickey Dolenz (drums)
Chris Squire (bass)
Billy Joel (piano)
Richie Cannata (sax)
Some interesting picks, ranging from actual Beatles, to Beatle kids, to people who have already participated, etc. But you have to remember the basic "format" - folks with a few hits (so that'd rule out a number of the folks suggested so far) and let's face it, no mega-stars - think "folks who whoud be playing the summer sheds" (so let's leave Macca, Elton, Townshend, Billy Joel, etc out of it - these guys are playing stadiums all by themselves). That said, among Ringo "contemporaries", Roger McGuinn and Ray Davies would be great. As for "disciples", I'd offer up Marshall Crenshaw, Pat DiNizio of the Smithereens, and Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles.
Micky Dolenz would be a great addition.
Mickey Dolenz (Great Pick!), Christine MacVie, Brian Wilson, Chuck Berry, Mark Knopfler, Brian Setzer, and Grace Slick!
I believe Christine McVie is retired, but yeah, she'd be wonderful. I know Grace Slick is definitely retired and wouldn't do it. Too bad.
Mickey Dolenz would definitely be choice number one. But out of other artists who actually might do one of these tours
Ray Davies
Mark Knopfler
Jackson Brown
Bryan Adams
Suzannah Hoffs (on bass doing the Bangles hits)
Joe Jackson
Joan Jett
John Sebastian
Phil Collins (has faded enough to do a tour)
