As the time approaches for the glitziest night in Hollywood, many people are already beginning to wonder which stars will make an appearance at the Oscars and which ones will opt out of attending the annual awards show. One star who has definitely confirmed her appearance at this year's Oscars is Charlize Theron. Theron has been tapped to present an award, although it is not yet known which award she will be presenting.
The biggest star to be traveling across the pond to attend the awards show is Daniel Day-Lewis. No stranger to the Oscars after bringing home two of the coveted awards in the past, Daniel has been nominated for a Best Actor award for his performance in the film "Lincoln," a historical drama that details the life of Abraham Lincoln. The actor previously took home a Best Actor award for "My Left Foot" in 1989 and "There Will Be Blood" in 2007. Speculation is currently running rampant about whether he will be able to pull off a monumental feat and bring home a third Best Actor award. If he does manage to pull it off, he will be the first man in the history of film to win the award three times. Interestingly, he originally turned down the role, but later stated that he developed a strong empathy for his character.
He is not the only British star who will be in attendance at the Oscars this year. Adele, the much-famed singer, will also be making an appearance after being nominated for her vocal performance in the James Bond film "Skyfall." This is the first nomination the Bond franchise has received since 1982. The release of the film was scheduled to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the first Bond movie. The franchise has not actually won an Academy award since "Thunderball" received the award for visual effects in 1965. "Skyfall" has also been nominated for sound editing and cinematography. It is anticipated that Adele will perform the title song from the film during the Oscars ceremony.
Other stars who are certain to be in attendance at the ceremony include Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway, both of whom have been nominated for their performances in "Les Miserables." Jackman received a nomination for Best Actor, while Hathaway received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Both are widely believed to have given exceptional performances, and odds are running high that at least one of them will bring home an award. This past year has certainly been an exciting one for Hathaway, who recently married. No doubt, her new husband will be sitting beside her during the ceremony when the winner for Best Supporting Actress is announced.
Hathaway may have some stiff competition; however, as there is also some speculation that Jennifer Lawrence could give her a run for her money and bring home the award for her performance in "Silver Linings Playbook." The actress, who initially rose to fame for her performance in "The Hunger Games," costars with Bradley Cooper in her latest film. She has recently stated that the ensemble she plans to don for this year's awards ceremony will be drastically different from the dress she wore to the 2011 Oscars. Whereas she opted last time for a form-fitting dress from Calvin Klein, she has hinted that the dress she has chosen this time around will be fashion-forward. Exactly what that means remains to be seen, but if the red dress she wore to the SAG awards is any indication, it should be quite noticeable. One thing that is likely certain is that the dress will also be a Christian Dior creation. She has already modeled dresses from the French design house to three other awards shows this year.
An actor who may just stun a few people when he walks down the red carpet for this year's awards show is Joaquin Phoenix. Nominated for a Best Actor award for his performance in "The Master," Phoenix has previously stated that he had no wish to be part of the Academy Awards. Phoenix went on to clarify that the awards season following his performance in "Walk the Line" was one of the most uncomfortable times of his life. Regardless, he has confirmed that he will be in attendance at this year's awards ceremony, where it will be revealed whether he or another esteemed actor will take home the Best Actor award. In addition to Hugh Jackman and Daniel Day-Lewis, Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper have also been nominated for the award.
