Oscar De La Hoya was caught on camera this morning during a group Starbucks run, but the camera operator didn't want to talk about De La Hoya's rehab stint.
Had Oscar seen the long and explicit apology issued by Floyd in response to someone on the Money Team trashing De La Hoya?
TMZ.com reported, "Golden Boy told us, "It was very nice of him. I greatly appreciated it ... so, thank you."
Two days ago, after Mayweather's majority decision over Mexico's boxing superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Yahoo! Sports reported on a nasty and insulting posting on Floyd's Instagram account.
"It was a photo of a red-eyed De La Hoya. Above his picture were the words, "MEANWHILE IN REHAB," and below it said 'OSCAR: "I gave Canelo the wrong Blueprint. I was high.'"
Canelo had been signed by Oscar's promotion company Golden Boy Promotions and nurtured by the boss. This was to be the crowning achievement in the 23 year-old red haired fighter's career, a shot at beating the unbeaten Mayweather, currently the pound-for-pound boxing king.
The posting was taken down, but Mayweather wanted the public to know it was not his sentiment and had never been.
Fans of Showtime's "All Access - Mayweather vs. Canelo" know that the Mayweather entourage gets treated well for their loyalty and company. Who got booted due to this mistake if anyone?
Here is the text of the message from Mayweather, circulated by his PR team:
It's unfortunate that a stupid picture was posted to my Instagram account earlier today that was not posted by me or authorized by me to post.
As I clearly stated during my fight week and again in the post-fight press conference, I completely support Oscar De La Hoya and his family during this difficult time in his life. Although we have had our differences in the past, I stand by him unconditionally and would never personally disrespect him or anyone else who struggles with addiction.
I apologize to Oscar and his family for this posting. I wish him well and am rooting for him to win his fight too. I also apologize to all of my followers for this ridiculous post. I have no ill-will towards anyone and have repeatedly stated that I only seek positivity in my life and for others.
Don't you wonder who pulled the stunt and if they have been banished from the floating party always surrounding the champ?
Anyone out there know?
