Who should play ‘Fletch’ in Warner Bros.’ remake?

Ask any 40- to 50-year-old guy his favorite movies from the ‘80s and he’ll no doubt include “Fletch” on his list. The comedy about an ace-reporter starred Chevy Chase in the title role. Loyal fans were not happy to hear the recent news that Burbank, California, based Warner Bros. is planning a remake of the cult classic.

The big question on everybody’s lips is who will play the part made famous by Chase in the 1985 flick. The obvious list of contemporary comedic stars is being bandied about. Among the names that have been mentioned for the role are Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell and Steve Carell.

One interesting choice that’s been floating around the Internet is Joel McHale. The host of “The Soup” and actor on “Community” has never carried a film on his own. But with the ability to get tips from his co-star at Greendale Community College, Chase himself, McHale might bring an interesting perspective to the movie.

For now Warner Bros. remains mum as the production goes into development. These are only a few facts. The film is currently called “Fletch Won.” It will be produced by Steve Golin and David List, who represents the estate of Gregory McDonald, the author of the novels on which the films are based. No director is attached yet.
