“I’m on a horse.”
Winter Olympics fans, Super Bowl fans and even cinema fans will recognize that line immediately from the new Old Spice after-shave commercials. Others may be among the millions of internet users who have seen the Procter and Gamble promotional spot on YouTube and other video sites.
“Look at your man. Now back to me. Now back at your man. Now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me,” croons the man on the screen.
Whoa!
Viewers spotting the ad spot on television or on movie screens recently need not be equestrians to feel a bit weak in the knees. Who is the deep-voiced actor that steps out of the shower onto the deck of a yacht, opens an oyster to find sold-out tickets, turns the tickets into a pile of loose diamonds and lands on a spotless white horse on a beach – all in the span of 30 seconds?
That’s actor and model Isaiah Mustafa. And, yes, the horse is real.
Apparently, the television commercial (created by Weiden & Kennedy) took three days of creative camera work, but 36-year-old Isaiah Mustafa did step from the boat to the horse in one leap. So, the guy has both acting chops and a bit of what equestrians might call a seat.
And, yes, the handsome horseman has a girlfriend, a yet-unnamed professional dancer, so female fans may have to rein in their enthusiasm.
A 1997 graduate of Arizona State University (with a major in history), Isaiah Mustafa has appeared on televised episodes of Castle, Days of Our Lives, Eli Stone, Football Wives, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and Ugly Betty.
Isaiah Mustafa played Moses in the 2006 motion picture, The Last Supper. He also played as an NFL wide receiver with the Seattle Seahawks for a few years.
