Who's new to American Horror Story's freak show?

In March, creator Ryan Murphy announced Michael Chiklis (Emmy-award winner of "The Shield" and "The Commish" fame) would join "American Horror Story" for season 4, Freak Show. Chiklis, a member of Marlene-Dietrich-esque ex-patriot Jessica Lange's freaky troupe, will play father to Evan Peters, husband to Angela Bassett and ex-hubby to Kathy Bates (all returning cast).

After reveal of a Killer Clown (in a May ET article), fans' hopes to see Chiklis play that role crashed a few weeks ago when TV Line reported him as strong man. Murphy said, "I love the part because it’s really written to be quite vulnerable, which is something I think Michael does so well – the strong man who’s vulnerable. I’m very excited to see [him] tussle with all those great ladies."

Wes Bentley ("American Beauty," "Hunger Games") also joins the cast for the two-part Halloween episodes as Eddie, an evil figure from Bates' past (according to EW). According to IMDb, the first episode will also feature Amazon Eve (Guinness's world's tallest professional model at over 6'7"), Mariana Paola Vicente as Carol and Christopher Neiman as Salty. (Check out his ears, and with that name? Killer clown, perhaps?) IMDb also lists Naomi Grossman back in the first episode of Freak Show as Pepper, the same freakish character she played in Asylum, but with no official announcement, this tidbit seems nebulous.

Neil Patrick Harris asked Murphy for a role in Freak Show, although he said he's not actually available, and Murphy tweeted that he has a role for the "How I Met Your Mother" star, according to Variety. Whether this actually comes off remains to be seen.

According to an Online Location Vacations story published yesterday, the show seeks to cast these additional male roles for the new season: "comedic" Larry, Bobby, an “extremely, extremely tall man who is also said to be a gentle giant, and Sammy, a mysterious role that requires the actor to use prosthetics."

Returning cast Sarah Paulson plays a two-headed Bette/Dot (click here for front view and here for back - tweeted by Murphy last week), while Denis O'Hare won't belong to Lange's troupe but instead, as a collector of freaks (according to Vulture), will clash with her. Jamie Brewer, Frances Conroy, Emma Roberts, and Gabourey Sidibe will also return but there's no skinny on their roles as of yet.

Freak Show, set in 1950s Jupiter, Florida, began filming in New Orleans last week. Check out these behind the scenes photos: Jessica Lange, Ryan Murphy, Evan Peters. A trailer surfaced but proved fake (watch it here). Official ones should pop up soon. No release date announced yet for the Coven (season 3) dvd, but given past history, likely a week or two before the Freak Show premiere October 15 at 10 p.m. Eastern on FX.
