Who really cares about the needs of others?

This image made available by the American Red Cross in London, Wednesday Jan. 13, 2010, a young earthquake survivor is given first aid in a shanty town on the outskirts of Port au Prince, following a major earthquake in Haiti, Tuesday Jan. 12, 2010. Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after the strongest earthquake to hit the poor Caribbean nation in more than 200 years crushed thousands of structures, from schools and shacks to the National Palace and the U.N. peacekeeping headquarters. Untold numbers were still trapped.(AP Photo/Matt Marek/American Red Cross, ho)

If you have read the story posted prior to this story, the one about a small town in West Virginia that gives so much time and money to the needy, you may be interested in knowing who gives the most time and money to charities world wide. As it turns out, there has been a study done and a book has been written based on that study.  Arthur Brooks, a top scholar of economics and public policy, spent years looking for the answer to..... "Who really cares and shows that they care, by giving their time and money?"

Consider 1 John 3:

But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

It was not a surprise to me what Brooks answer to that question is.... Americans give the most to charities, and conservative  people of faith give the most over all.

People that believe in God are the real givers, folks.  If you have faith in God you're more likely to love others. That's the facts. The Bible has always said this, the church has always known this, and now we have reports that show it to the skeptic. Militant atheists hate to admit this, but even they know it's true.

Why do atheist hate to admit this truth? Moreover, why do atheists hate believers so much? 1 John 3 again...

Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

The unbeliever lives in death. They have never been brought into new life by the Holy Spirit. They are dead in their sins, and loving it I might add.

Believers on the other hand obey their King.....1 John 3 again

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

There is power in love. Love causes people to do amazing things. It causes people to risk their lives in order to save others they don't even know. When you care it will cause people to spend their own money, because of a compassionate love that comes over them.

Why do some not want this same love in them? The love that gives and cares for others? The love people have that would cause them to sell their house and car and move their children to a third world country in order to share the gospel with other living souls. A caring love that causes people to spend their vacations in Haiti as those good folks in Elvins?

Going by this study and by history, and by the Bible, the answer is that believers love God and therefore that love is shown in loving others too.

Why do some not believe?

Why? They love sin more. Some love sin so much they will take all their time and spend it fighting believers about the existence of God. They spend hours on end going from web site to web site trying their best to debunk the Bible. They love to hate God more than they love a man that is in need.

Hating God is where their love remains. That is where they spend their time.  On what do they spend their money? It's not on charities, because the studies show other wise.

Jim writes:"Why do some not believe?
    Why? They love sin more."
    Nonsense.
" Some love sin so much they will take all their time and spend it fighting believers about the existence of God. They spend hours on end going from web site to web site trying their best to debunk the Bible."
More nonsense. Yes, I actively dispute your kinds of assertions about God. That's because you as fact what isn't knowable as fact and present as knowing what you don't know, judging others while you corrupt thought. Such religion destroys reason by the weight of emotion injected into thought.
"They love to hate God more than they love a man that is in need." How would I hate a myth? Yes, church goers tend to give more to charity, but it has nothing to do with beliefs. They tend to be people more easily integrated into conforming communities who are organized into such actions. But non-religious people and secular organizations also give to charity and often do things for others in other ways.
