A record total of 108.4 million fans tuned into NFL's Kickoff Weekend games (Sept. 5-9) on CBS, ESPN, FOX and NBC to rank as the most-viewed opening weekend ever. This marks the fourth consecutive Kickoff Weekend with a total reach exceeding 105 million viewers.
But while there is no place better than watching a game at a stadium along with 70,000 other screaming fans, most fans watch games at home with family and friends. Speaking of at-home fandom, ever heard of "homegating?" It’s the newest addition to the football fan’s vocabulary!
The NFL is celebrating its at-home fans with a unique collection of products that help bring the fun and spirit of tailgating from the stadium to the comfort of home by allowing fans to turn their houses into team headquarters with items for every style of game day host and hostess.
"Homegating provides the perfect opportunity for fans to bridge their personal passions - food, family, friends and their favorite team - to bring the excitement of the stadium into their home in a way that’s authentic and memorable to them," commented Natara Holloway, Vice President of Retail Development for NFL. "NFL Homegating is a way for fans to bring the fun and spirit of tailgating home."
But just how do you bring the spirit of the game into your living room? Here's a few simple ways to fuse your favorite team into day-of excitement:
- Start the weekend with some Thursday Night Football and an NFL-inspired bar setup complete with Glass Pitchers, Pint Glasses and Chip n’ Dip Platters celebrating your team on game night.
- Put some team spirit into ‘Sunday Brunch’ with drinks served in their favorite team’s Etched Wine Glasses, while staging leftover bubbly in NFL’s Wine Bottle Shoe Holder with a Wine & Cheese Cutting board.
- On game day, bring the family together around burgers or grilled cheese emblazoned with your team’s logo.
- Invite the crew over and serve your signature snacks and beverages to friends and family on Monday night with a team branded Crock Pot, Gametime Bowl, and Icon Cutting Board.
Homegating proves that pride for your team does not have to stop when you leave the parking lot or turn off the TV. It provides game watchers the ability to incorporate their team passion outside of wearing it on their shirt.
