There is a lot of talk about Van Jones being fired from President Barack Obama's cabinet yesterday. While many people are reeling from the news and trying to get an understanding of why Van Jones decided to terminate his job as "an administration official specializing in environmentally friendly green jobs with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, people need to even know who Van Jones is, what he does, and what he stood for.
Van Jones is a 1993 graduate of Yale law school and an attorney. Van Jones wrote a book on "green jobs" titled The Green Collar Economy. He is an advocate of a true "green" environmental economy and goes hard and has gone hard on improving the economy and giving jobs to people related to environmentally friendly initiatives.
Mr. Jones runs a firm called Green For All which is "a national organization working to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. The organization is based in San Francisco, California where Van Jones employs an employment staff of more than 25 diverse people and offers Jobs and Internships in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In 2008, Van Jones' Green For All organization launched the Green For All Academy in partnership with Al Gore's We Campaign. "The Academy aims to expand, educate and engage the base of support for climate solutions and a clean energy economy in America. It does this by training leaders from low-income communities and communities of color to communicate the promise of the green economy — and take action to realize that promise." Additionally, Van Jones and his Green For All firm are involved with Hip Hop and his Green the Block campaign in partnership with Hip Hop Caucus.
