Its been a decade since we’ve heard anything from Kathleen Hanna. The riot grrrl, feminist punk icon and lead singer of Bikini Kill was diagnosed with Lyme disease back in 2010, which left her unable to tour or make music.
Today, the rockstar has teamed up with former Bikini Kill bandmate Kathi Wilcox, Kenny Mellman of Kiki and Herb, Sara Landeau, a band coach at the Girls Rock Camp in New York City and Carmine Covelli, Le Tigre’s former head of light designer turned drummer.
The collective refers to themselves as The Julie Ruin and is set to debut their album Run Fast on September 3rd. Recorded over the course of 3 years, Run Fast is an ode to Kathleen’s punk-rock past and a glimpse into what music and life means to her now.
The band’s fall tour starts off at a sold out show on September 3rd at the Bowery Ballroom in New York and closes off at the Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin, Texas mid November.
