It was the advertising industry that can generation Y its name in a 1993 editorial in “Ad Age”. At the time was nothing more than an alphabetical advancement in the generational name. However the inquisitive nature of the generation change the moniker slightly, in the minds of many people, to “generation why”.

Born between 1977 and 2000 generation Y is also frequently referred to as the millennial generation. However the term millennial generation has slowly shifted to refer to those babies born after 1998. Still some hang on to the antiquated reference to this generation.

Already generation Y has experienced a drastic change in global security providing them with unprecedented challenges for the future. Never before has a threat for world terrorism as high as what this generation is believed to be facing. Undoubtedly this will have the biggest impact on shaping the generation.
