Who hates breastfeeding more, men or women?

Today, August 9, CafeMom blogger Michele Zipp posted 5 Reasons Men Hate Breastfeeding (And Of Course Sex Is Involved). My first thought, shared by several commenters, was that in my experience, it's most often women who dis breastfeeding.

Well, there was the one time a young man informed me of his opinion that breastfeeding was "inappropriate" at the drum circle. So yeah, I can agree with Zipp that some men are jerk faces when it comes to breastfeeding.

However, I and pretty much everyone I have spoken with about this breastfeeding hatred phenomenon have largely received the jerk face comments from women. It was a young woman on the jogging path who called the Redmond police to report me for indecent exposure. It was an older woman who passed me and said to her husband, "Someone needs to get that woman a bottle."

It was a woman doctor who told another local mom not to breastfeed in an office lobby near the windows, because "someone might see.' It was female news anchor Lisa Rollins who was "disgusted" by breastfeeding. It was Kim Kardashian with her "EWWW" comment. I could go on...

It was an older man who approached a mom breastfeeding in a grocery store who said, "That's the sweetest thing. I didn't know they made 'em like you anymore." And my husband, he's downright fiery about protecting and promoting breastfeeding.

Of course, I don't have statistics to accurately generalize. This is all anecdotal. What do you think? Have you had more insensitive complaints about breastfeeding from men or women?
