If someone were to ask you, “Who are you,” how would you respond? If you are like most people you might start with your name and then list a bunch of your roles. My name is Kathryn Williams and I’m a mother, a partner, a business executive, an artist, a caregiver and so on. But, what if these roles were no longer active or appropriate, who are you then?
Many people define themselves by their job or their parental role and, by doing this, it is probable you’ll lose sight of the needs of your true authentic self. If you define yourself as a mother, you will be lost once your kids are college bound. If you define yourself by your job, you will be lost if, heaven forbid, you’re suddenly fired.
Stripped of your titles, your core energy of you still exists in its most purist form. What is this? How do you define it?
Of course, if you take away your roles, you can define yourself by gender, your nationality, your political perspective, (this usually applies to your beliefs across other areas in your life, perhaps you’re a liberal or conservative) but lets be more basic, and at the same time, simplify this defining sense of being further.
If you think about your true calling, your life purpose, what comes to mind? For me, it’s creative healing. It doesn’t matter what role I’m serving, at my core I’m a creative healer. I reach to people who are suffering and try to help them better cope through their hardship. I utilize my art forum to enable my work. But, even when I wasn’t in the art world, I was still in business working in a problem resolution forum where my creativity, compassion and drive to find a middle ground manifested daily success.
My creative healing purpose is fluid and by recognizing this, I’m able to apply it to all areas of my life. And, by doing this, I am more fulfilled.
Discovering my sense of core purpose and fueling this energy as a creative healer has helped me maintain my balance and my mission regardless of any role I’m serving at the current time.
At 42 years old, I’ve found myself. And, it is my hope that by sharing this message, you can find yourself too!
