In “Sparkle the late songstress plays the family matriarch of a group of singing siblings. The movie was a remake of the 1976 cult classic of the same name. In addition to Houston, the film also stars Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Omari Hardwick, Tamela Mann and Brely Evans.
Examiner spoke with Evans before the movie’s premiere and she told us Houston would be proud of the film.
“She is proud of this film. I love to speak of Whitney in the present tense because her light forever shines in all of us. She is proud of this film. This is something she has been working on for years...this was her baby, she treated it as such. So I know she’s pleased because when we wrapped everybody was in tears; we didn’t want to go home and it was close to Thanksgiving and it was time for us to go be with our families and we literally were like crying saying I don’t want to leave you.”
“Sparkle” premiered in theaters on August 17 just a few months after Houston’s death. It grossed over $24 million at the box office.
