Whitney Houston is dead; Why did Whitney die at age 48?

Singer Whitney Houston has died, according to her professional pubclicist Kristen Foster. Whitney, who has been a music star for what feels like ages, was only 48-years-old.

Although it's easy to point the finger at drug use, the truth is that at this very moment, those questions simply don't have answers.  Still, we do know some details regarding Whitney's unfortunate death.

First, Whitney died inside a Beverly Hiton hotel on Saturday.  According to TMZ, a crime lab vehicle was seen outside the building just a few hours ago.

What's sad about Whitney's death, outside of the obvious, is that it looks like she could've been on the fortunate end of a career resurgence.  With Simon Cowell dying to land a big name for season 2 of "X Factor," Access Hollywood recently reported (ironically just hours before her death), that Whitney may have been in the running to become the brand new judge on the show.  That would've effectively ended the Beyonce-to-"X Factor" rumors.

With the death of Don Cornelius and now Whitney Houston, Black History Month is off to a horrifically sad and somber note.
