This week's Saturday Night Live host is Maya Rudolph who is no stranger to the late night sketch comedy, which airs on NBC 4 in Queens. One of her well-known impressions is of the late Whitney Houston, who died this past weekend. Will Rudolph be bringing the impersonation back in spite of what has happened?
If Whitney Houston was still alive, there would be no question about it. Rudolph would be expected to be doing her impersonation of Whitney Houston at some point over the one and a half hours. She's so good at it. Now, though, it's a completely different situation.
According to TVLine, "SNL is indeed considering such a skit," but the only statement they got from a rep was:
"As you know, the show never comments on potential show content. As Maya impersonated Whitney, it's a natural question, but one [to which] we do not have an answer."
Whitney Houston's funeral is "reportedly scheduled for Saturday," so that is something to take into consideration. The wounds may still be too fresh for her friends and family, and even respectful impressions may be too much to even hear or know about on such a tough day for them.
Would Saturday Night Live be better off just leaving any impersonations—even those meant to honor the late singer—to a later date? It may be better to be safe rather than sorry and bring back Rudolph at a later date if they wanted to pay homage in a respectful way.
Maya Rudolph is returning to Saturday Night Live on NBC 4 in Queens this weekend to host. Do you think she should impersonate Whitney Houston, or is SNL better off waiting?
