Whitney Houston Dead at 48

Whitney Houston is dead at 48. The legendary singer was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. in her room on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, according to reports from the Associated Press. An investigation is currently underway and authorities are trying to determine a cause of death.

The troubled music icon was the most awarded female artist of all time, according to Guinness World Records. As of 2010, Houston was the recipient of 415 career awards including: 2 Emmy Awards, 6 Grammy Awards, 30 Billboard Music Awards, and 22 American Music Awards. She was also one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 170 million albums and singles worldwide thanks to hits like "I Will Always Love You," "How Will I Know," "Didn't We Almost Have It All,"  and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)"

Houston's passing lands on the eve of music's biggest night, the 54th annual Grammy Awards. The singer, who last performed at a pre-Grammy event on Thursday, was scheduled to attend Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party tonight at the Beverly Hilton. The party will go on as scheduled -- as a memorial. Grammy producers are currently scrambling to modify tomorrow night's show to pay tribute to the late singer.

Houston is survived by her 19-year-old daughter with Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina and her mother, gospel singer Sissy Houston.
