It is often said that in life we are all dealt a hand by which we live and die. Some of us are given many gifts and others maybe only have one or two, and these gifts often require great sacrifice and responsibility to oneself and others. It is only in the passing of celebrities, dignitaries, friends and family who have lived their most challenging moments in the giant glare known as the spotlight of “life” that reminds us all of our daily blessings, strengths and shortcomings.
Each time we lose a person like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Wilder, Jr., Etta James, or Don Cornelius our spirit cries out from the pain of losing a person whose gifts have given purpose and joy to all as we travel and negotiate life’s highway. The creator had given Whitney gifts that were perhaps more brilliant, talented and more unique than most.
Her joy, struggles and music made her life relevant, inspiring and hopeful. She reminded us of our mother’s, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins and us. Her triumphs and challenges were familiar because of that personal musical connection she had with our heart and soul and her death brings us face to face with our own mortality. Much will be said about her life and the demons her spirit battled as she prepared for a comeback.

As her mother, daughter, close friends, family and fans prepare to celebrate her life, we will remember Whitney Elizabeth Houston for all the good times, for her struggles and for the lessons she taught us. We wish her the peace and joy she was fighting to reclaim in life. Whitney is and will always be family to us, we love, miss, remember and appreciate her always. She will forever be embedded in our soul and memories.
