Howland, ME-- The Stearns Minutemen boys basketball team outscored the Penobscot Valley Howlers 20-10 in the fourth quarter Friday evening to earn a 57-47 victory.
It was the second time this week that the Minutemen defeated PVHS. Stearns cruised to a 57-36 win on Monday.
Riley Whitney led the Minutemen with 20 minutes. Seth Brown added 19 (5 three pointers), Kyle McVey had 10. Lucas McLain and Marc Morneault netted four points each.
Stearns (11-4) will next play on Tuesday, January 29th when they host Penquis. It will be the final home game of the season for the Minutemen.
A win would clinch a top five seed and a trip to the quarterfinals at the Bangor Auditorium in the upcoming class C tournament for the Minutemen.
Robert Hallett led the Howlers with 15 points. Wade Thurlow had 11, Griffin Libby added 10 points. Grant Doane chipped in with nine points, Wyatt Foster put in two points.
PVHS (2-11) will next play on Tuesday, January 29th when they travel to East Millinocket for a contest against the Schenck Wolverines.
