Whitechapel guitarist Alex Wade talks ‘Our Endless War’, Dave Brockie

Knoxville, Tennessee’s resident deathcore merchants, Whitechapel have been peddling in aggressive brutality since 2006. The band’s unique three-guitar attack offers multi-layered riffage that other bands do not. This week, guitarist Alex Wade checked in with The Examiner to discuss the band’s newest and fifth album, “Our Endless War“.

With its critically acclaimed 2012 self-titled release the band moved away from an album theme and pushed beyond its deathcore roots, focusing on simply writing strong, extreme metal. With “Our Endless War“, the band has returned with a somewhat themed effort, but has continued to challenge its deathcore boundaries.

Whitechapel is getting ready to hit the road with Carnifex and DevilDriver this spring. Wade admits that both DevilDriver and Whitechapel had hopes of joining Mayhem Festival this year, but when that did not pan out, the two bands opted to run their own co-headlining tour across the states.

In our interview above, Wade talks about the direction and feel of the new record, working with producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver, Cannibal Corpse) again, and how the band choreographs three-guitars. Whitechapel toured with Gwar this winter and Wade shares his thoughts on Dave Brockie and reveals a favorite memory from the tour. He also tells us about the three albums that changed his life and what cartoon he’s currently addicted to.
