WHITE WAVE's CoolNY 2013 Dance Festival

The 10th Anniversary of the CoolNY Dance Festival kicks off tonight with an opening night benefit and continues with performances through February 10, 2013.

The festival originated as part of NYC's annual winter celebration of "arts and parks," Cool New York and the performances are FREE to attend, though donations are appreciated and help sustain the Festival each year. Curated by WHITE WAVE's Artistic Director, Young Soon Kim, the annual festival presents works by rising and established choreographers.

One of CoolNY 2013 Dance Festival's choreographers is Olsi Gjeci, the Artistic Director of the NYC-based Sublime Dance Company. Gjeci will premiere a duet entitled Music for Muscles tomorrow, Jan. 31 at 9:00 P.M. in the Festival, with additional performance on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 P.M. and Sunday, Feb. 3 at 4:00 P.M.

Created specifically for Sublime Dance Company dancers, Diana Seabra and Traci Klein, Music for Muscles explores the transmission of energies; "it is an attempt to look into 5 distinct qualities of movement: legato, staccato, moderato, adagio and presto, and to express them by way of creating a musical score by imaging the muscles being the notes on it."

Sublime Dance Company is a great example of a company on the rise within the NYC dance community, having been created in the summer of 2010, with an active touring schedule and collaborative projects with composers, filmmakers, photographers and costume designers to date.

Over the course of the Festival there will be 130 performances featuring 60 companies. Performances will be held Thursdays through Sundays this week and next. For the complete program schedule and to see what other companies are performing, please click here.

In addition, the Festival includes A Day for the Family, two entertaining and educational Saturday matinee performances (Feb. 2 and Feb. 9).

The WHITE WAVE John Ryan Theater is located at 25 Jay Street in Brooklyn. For more information, contact WHITE WAVE at 718.855.8822 or email coolny2013@gmail.com.
