To have a white supremacist town, this is one man’s mission for a town in North Dakota. This guy plans to buy up land, creating this white supremacist town out of of Leith, North Dakota. This will become a place where minorities would not be welcomed if this guy gets his way, reports CNN on Sept 21.
Paul Craig Cobb, one of the best known supremacists in North America picked Leith because it is a beautiful place and the property is so cheap. He was able to buy five pieces of property for as little as $500 each. This tranquil town is in jeopardy of losing its serenity if Cobb gets his wish.
Cobb envisions his new white supremacist town as a place where white culture could be celebrated and white nationalist banners will be flown. It will also be a place where white supremacists from all over can visit,, which is already happening on Sunday and Monday.
White supremacists from all over are descending upon the town to show support to Cobb and his vision. While at the same time residents of Leigh are trying to make sense of the developments. The town’s people are not behind Cobb.
To make matters worse, the town’s only black resident now feels under threat. This is his home and now he and his wife are targets of hate. Bobby Harper and his wife, Sherill Harper have already received messages from hate groups.
Mayor Ryan Schock, who has lived in Leith all his life said:
"It is very shocking, because I didn't ever know groups like this existed.”
Miller Ferrie, who has lived in the town for seven years, said the town’s peace has been shattered. She went on to say:
"It saddens us, because of what they stand for. If they were coming to hold a rally for Christ we would be thrilled, but what they stand for is the opposite of what we believe."
Even Sheriff Steven Bay said he’s keeping a close eye on the situation. Cobb hasn’t broken any laws, so even though this feels evil, it is legal for him to buy up land and rent it to his racist buddies. Bay has contacted Canada where Cobb is wanted for hate speech charges over a blog, but they are not willing to extradite someone from their neighboring country.
This is some scary stuff going on in North Dakota and the residents who live there have their hands tied.
