Happy Holidays! While you finish your last cup of eggnog or try and throw all the leftovers together to make something edible, here are a few more questions sent in by you the reader:
Q: Do the Sox have any chance of signing Japanese star Masahiro Tanaka?
A: Their name hasn’t come up as a suitor. Tanaka will be a nice get for whoever nabs him, but this is a team that likes their starters. GM Rick Hahn showed he believes he has depth here when he made the Hector Santiago deal and the team will likely spend whatever remaining dollars they have on position players.
Q: What will the Sox batting order look like on Opening Day?
A: There is still plenty of movement that can happen, but if I was to set things:
CF - Eaton
SS – Ramirez
1B – Abreu
DH – Dunn
RF – Garcia
LF – Viciedo
2B – Beckham
3B – Davidson
Q: Now that Addison Reed is gone, who handles the 9th inning?
A: I’d hand the ball to Nate Jones. The 27-year-old seems to have finally gotten a handle on his stuff. The 89 K’s in 78 innings of work show that he can also get the strikeout when needed.
Q: What is the over/under on wins for 2014?
A: Well, they only got 63 last year. I do like some of the improvements they’ve made, but moving the needle significantly is hard to do. I’d say 71 sounds about in the ballpark.
