With everything going on over the past couple of weeks, it seems like MLB really doesn’t have an offseason. Here are a few of the questions that popped into my inbox as of late.
A: The player no longer gets to decide, that responsibility now falls into the lap of the Hall of Fame. That said … I can’t fathom Big Frank wearing an Oakland or Toronto cap in Cooperstown.
Q: Masahiro Tanaka visited Chicago last week, any chance he signs here?
A: If by here you mean Chicago, yes. Sadly, my money is on the Cubs. While the Sox are deep at SP, the Cubbies are not. With all the positional talent they have on the farm, it makes sense for Theo and Hoyer to spend some of their dollars on a young arm.
Q: Who will be the Sox breakout player of 2014?
A: We all know Chris Sale will be great, but I think Jose Abreu is the real deal. Todd Steverson and Rick Hahn raved about him after seeing what he did at this week’s minicamp. He’s very fast to the ball and I don’t think 30 homeruns is out of the question.
Q: Is former Sox closer Bobby Jenks really attempting a comeback?
A: Yep. Even after being out since 2011, the 32-year-old still wants to play. He’s endured three surgeries and a bout of addiction, but if he can get MLB hitters out, someone will take a chance on him.
