According to Jay Busbee of Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday, American snowboarding superstar Shaun White will not participate in the men's Olympic slopestyle snowboarding competition that will begin this evening at 11:00 p.m. mountain time.

White was seen as a medal contender after finishing in third place at a World Cup men's slopestyle snowboarding competition in Copper Mountain, Colorado on December 22.

However White injured his wrist while practicing and will concentrate on the men's halfpipe snowboarding competition that starts February 11. White was actually one of two snowboarders that has had to pull out of the slopestyle competition. He joins Torstein Horgmo who broke his collarbone after hitting a rail in practice.

The injures to White and Horgmo will further open the door for Canadian gold medal contenders Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan and Max Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec.

However McMorris is battling a broken rib himself that he recently suffered at the Winter X Games in Colorado. According to the Canadian Press, McMorris was very pleased with a Tuesday training session and plans to compete with the pain.
