Described as the ‘sultry, steamy, exotic and artfully provocative’ event supporting the arts, culture and community of the Houston Heights area, White Linen Night in the Heights returns this Saturday, August 7th, 2010 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Heights.
Fresh art, live music, refreshments, antiques and unique shops are just a handful of some of the reasons why the White Linen Night event is truly magical and thrilling. Held annually, this event aims to increase support of local businesses, encourage community and celebrate all that the Heights has to offer.
Originally, White Linen Nights began in New Orleans’ French Quarter as a way to pay homage to the city’s artists and creative-innovators. After Hurricane Katrina disastrously struck New Orleans, many of the city’s artists, patrons and business owners re-located in the Houston Heights and re-opened their businesses in this eclectic and enticing community. Excited about the prospect of combining some New Orleans style soul with Texas hospitality, the Heights is now home to this huge community-wide event that brings in anywhere from 20,000 to 30,000 interested individuals each year.
Following true to the event that began in New Orleans, event-goers don white linen and celebrate the eclectic art, culture and community of the Heights District. Come out to White Linen Night to experience live music, art galleries, boutiques & shops, restaurants and bars in the area.
Since this Saturday has been credited as "National Night Out", and if you are interested in supporting your local community while having the opportunity to meet fun, interesting people at the same time, then I suggest throwing on your white linen attire and making a debut at the White linen Night in the Heights this Saturday. This is one of Houston’s few events that will unite all walks-of-life within the community. Where else in Houston can you observe the type of eccentricity that cities such as Austin have to offer combined with Houston’s finest and most distinguished culture?
