White House press secretary Jay Carney responded today regarding the petition to have CNN host Piers Morgan deported for criticizing U.S. gun policy.
The petition was in response to Morgan’s criticism of US gun control laws, he even went so far as calling a gun rights advocate an “unbelievably stupid man.” Over 109,000 signatures had been collected.
The bottom-line is Morgan’s staying put.
The post entitled "When Discussing the Second Amendment, Keep the First in Mind Too," essentially explains that Morgan has a right under the constitution to speak his mind.
Carney writes “Let’s not let arguments over the Constitution’s Second Amendment violate the spirit of its First. President Obama believes that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. However, the Constitution not only guarantees an individual right to bear arms, but also enshrines the freedom of speech and the freedom of the press.”
In the same post, President Obama speaks in a video about gun control. He discusses banning military style assault rifles and high volume ammunition clips. He’s also tasked the Vice President to come up with a comprehensive plan to keep our kids safe.
Just today another shooting took place at a high school in Taft, Calif., critically injuring a student.
