On Friday, the White House officially rejected an online petition for the government to build a "Death Star".

An online petition created on Nov. 14 asked for the federal government to begin securing funding and designs for the sci-fi planet sized vehicle by 2016. The petition claimed the building of the vehicle would boost construction, engineering, science, and defense jobs within the United States.

The petition generated 34,435 people. Petitions generating 25,000 or more signatures receive a response from the White House.

The official response to the petition was penned by Paul Shawcross, the current head of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget. The $850 quadrillion price tag was the biggest real-world stumbling block towards creating a Death Star amidst the current deficit reduction talks.

The response also stated the desire to build a Death Star conflicted with the White House's policy against blowing up planets. Shawcross wrote, “Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?”
