White House plan offers amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports today that the White House immigration plan leaked over the weekend is merely a “backup” plan if the leadership in Congress fails to come up with a plan. Bloomberg news reports today that White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough says the plan allows illegal immigrants to become citizens after paying taxes and passing a background check. The plan proposed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio would allow illegal immigrants to obtain temporary legal status to stay in the United States as guest workers and have their applications for permanent status placed at the end of the line behind those who have already applied legally.

There are an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants who would be affected by either of these immigration proposals. The possibility of adding another 11 million to the rolls of eligible and possibly registered voters is expected to overwhelmingly benefit the Democrats if most of those voters actually vote for the Democrats.

Senator Rubio blasted the White House plan, saying, “"If actually proposed, the president's bill would be dead on arrival in Congress, leaving us with unsecured borders and a broken legal immigration system for years to come.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer story suggested the release of the White House plan was a mistake, “David Axelrod, who was a senior adviser to Obama's re-election campaign, acknowledged Monday that it likely was a mistake for news of the Obama immigration plan to be made public. “

On his radio program today, Rush Limbaugh said the White House plan is designed to further “gum up the works” and prevent passage of an immigration plan in Congress before the 2014 elections because he believes that by having the issue instead of a plan passed will win more votes for the Democrats in the 2014 election.
